KNOWN for his hit song “Stupidvisor”, Bahamian singer Clay “Qpid” Adderley is back with another creative rake n’ scrape banger entitled “Peep Ghost”.
His old school style of rake n’ scrape music combined with lyrics relatable to modern times, has drawn fans both young and old locally and internationally.
Hailing “all the way from Hawkins Hill” – a line you will always hear in a song sung by Qpid – the singer has kept the pressure on by bringing hit after hit ever since his debut as a solo artist in 2011.
He told In Ya Ear that the new single is based on a true story; an experience he went through in a past relationship.
“Every lyrical line in the song is what I been through literally,” he said.
“The message behind the song is basically saying don’t go digging for the truth or something that you think is truth when you might not be able to handle the truth or ready to see the truth.”
Qpid said he remembers the moment when music became his passion in the seventh grade. Studying under the guidance of Bahamian entertainer Yonell Justilien, Qpid said his main instrument became the trumpet, but he also enjoyed the saxophone, baritone and the viola.
“I also took weekend classes held at the College of the Bahamas, instructed by Chris Justilien. I was a member of the National Youth Orchestra with Errol ‘The Duke’ Strachan for about six years as well,” said Qpid.
Being inspired by all genres of music, the singer said he has a special place in his heart for Bahamian music.
With radio smashers such as “Bus Driver”, “D.E.A. (Drink Every Afternoon)”, “Church & Bar”, “Stupidvisor” and now the new release, Qpid said the sky is the limit for him in 2014. He said with God and faith, all things are possible.
The name of his new single, “Peep Ghost”, he explained, is nothing new to the local scene.
“The name has actually been around before my time and has always been a term that the ‘old people’ would say. It just blended perfectly to get the song and message across to listeners who would tune in,” said Qpid.
He said there is a music video in the works for the new song, however, no release date has been set as yet.
From social media to local radio stations, Qpid said “ Peep Ghost” is receiving great feedback since its release last month.
The singer said he is hoping the song will gain as much attention and popularity as his previous releases, but all he can do is his best to push it for people to enjoy.
“At the end of the day, the listeners determine the success for music artists. All I can do is my part and hope that the people accept it and love what I do as much as I do. They say the tongue is powerful and you should speak creation and success into your life; it is the law of attraction,” he said.
“Speak, believe, act, achieve are my words of governance. One day I would hope to pursue a full-time career in music and make a decent living, but there is no such industry in the Bahamas to do so right now.”
