THE quarterfinal round of the Women’s Bulgaria League began on April 1 with Waltiea Rolle and the Haskovo ladies facing Montana 2003. This matchup is one of the fiercest in the league. These two teams met back on March 8 in the Bulgaria Cup Final with Montana 2003 coming out on top with a 75-64 finish in the OT win.
However, Rolle dominated the Bulgaria Cup series and was named MVP for her performance on the court. Putting up solid numbers throughout, she had an average of 24 points to tie with Gloria Brown of Neftochimic, 16 avg. rebounds and 23 total blocks.
When asked about receiving the title and what it means for her, she said it felt good to know that her hard work is paying off, but making it to the finals is what she wants more than anything.
With one of three games to be played in the quarterfinals against a tough team Rolle has been consistent in her game. Unfortunately, Haskovo lost by two points against Montana going home with a 81-83 finish. In this first round she had 33 points, 24 rebounds, four blocks, a stellar performance.
Rolle has demonstrated that playing in Europe has been a good choice, by helping her to improve her game.
Today, she will look to hit the court again, with the team needing a win in the second and third rounds, in order to advance to the semifinals.
The final round of the quarterfinals is scheduled for 11am Saturday, April 5.
With less than three weeks to go she will be heading directly to the Minnesota Lynx for training camp on April 27. The Lynx are the 2013 WNBA champions and she will be playing for a spot on a very versatile team, with players like Maya Moore who was MVP in the WNBA Finals.
Rolle is not shy for words when she was asked about starting training camp and playing for the present WNBA champions.
She said that she is very excited about joining the team and this is something she has dreamed about for a long time. Being so close to making that happen is a great feeling, to represent the Bahamas at the highest level in women’s basketball.
