THE Bahamas Bowling Federation’s 2014 Bahamas Bowling National Championships concluded at Mario’s Bowling and Entertainment Centre with the crowning of a new ladies’ champion Xynea Johnson and a familiar face, Lee “9 lives” Davis, who was back in the winner’s circle on the men’s side for a fourth time.

Johnson finished her championship match with a 211 score over defending champion Driskell Rolle, who had a respectable 183 score and was first to congratulate the new champion as she proved her doubters wrong, bowling her way into Bahamian sporting history by becoming the 2014 women’s national bowling champion.

Naysayers were left with their mouths open because she performed and this time around, performed well on the national stage. In the process, Johnson “punched her ticket” to the 50th World Cup later this year by winning the 2014 Ladies Bowling championship.

On the men’s side, Lee Davis and David Slatter brought more fuel to the fire about who is the best bowler in the country today. Davis proved that for the fourth time, he can lay claim to that title with his victory.

Davis bowled a respectable 199 to pull off the victory over Slatter, who had a disappointing 163. Davis became the first Bahamian to win the national bowling title. In the process, Davis punched his ‘ticket’ to the 2014 World Cup and Slatter is denied yet another year.

The federation would like to thank Mario’s and their staff, including Raymond Adderley and Greg Wilkinson, Joanne Woodside, Powell Camille Burnside and Shanta Kerr-Richardson, who assisted greatly in the administration of the tournament, and all the bowlers who participated in the 2014 Nationals.
