OPERATORS of a popular Facebook group, with Families of Murdered Victims will be staging a march on Rawson Square to demand that persons who are charged with murder are not given bail, and that the death penalty is carried out.
Margo Seymour, the creator of the Facebook group, The No Spin Zone, said that as a Bahamian who loves her country, when there is something that is threatening it to its core “we all have a duty to stand up and speak out”.
The Facebook group, in conjunction with Khandi Gibson of Families of Murdered Victims (FOAM) and Troy Garvey of Determined for Absolute Change (DFAC) invite all concerned Bahamians to participate in the “No Bail Let Capital Punishment Prevail” on May 3 at 9am.
The objectives of the march include, but are not limited to -
• No bail for individuals accused of murder or attempted murder;
• The carrying out of the death penalty within a reasonable time after an offender is sentenced to death;
• The removal of the Privy Council as the court of last resort in The Bahamas through legislation;
• The raising of awareness regarding the citizen’s responsibility in combating crime;
• Securing financial assistance and other means of support for family members of murder victims.
The march will start at Christie Park and move onto Cumberland and Bay Streets, ending at Rawson Square where a pep rally is scheduled to take place.
Interested persons were invited to take part in this non-political event.
