JEFFERY Gibson, the second Bahamian 400 metres hurdler to win a Commonwealth Games medal, is the son of Bridgette and Regtt Gibson and was born on August 15, 1990, in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

He attended Bishop Michael Eldon School, where he started competing in the 400m. He eventually moved to the 400m hurdles when he attended Oral Roberts University, following in the footsteps of Andretti Bain, who is in Glasgow as a member of the men’s 4 x 400 metres relay team.

He began his international career for the Bahamas winning a medal on the 4 x 400m relay team at both the 2006 and 2008 Carifta Games. In 2012, at the NACAC under-23 Championships in Irapuato, Mexico, he showed his versatility by taking the gold in the 400m hurdles, bronze in the 400m and silver as a member of the 4 x 400m relay team.

Last year, in his initial appearance as senior athlete, he went to the 24th Central American and Caribbean Championships in Mexico where he came out a double silver medallist in the 400m and as a member of the 4 x 400m relay team.

Although he participated in a number of other sports like football, swimming and volleyball, Gibson said he preferred track and field because it gave him an opportunity to see the world.

Now he can add winning medals to the list.

Mr. Gibson you have done well, and you are a good example for other young Bahamian men. I never stop praying for the young Men of the Bahamas. I pray that this will be the first of many more to come. "You go boy you just go." God speed.
