US family charged for fishing offences

AN American family of four has been charged in Freeport Magistrate’s Court for breach of the Fisheries Act and illegal landing at Grand Cay, Abaco.

George Fritzgerald, 47, Cammy Fritzgerald, 39, Tyler Fritzgerald, 20, and Jennifer Taylor, 39, were arraigned in court two before Deputy Chief Magistrate Helen Jones yesterday after being discovered at Grand Cay on Saturday.

George Fritzgerald pleaded guilty to assisting in illegal landing and was given a conditional discharge. He was ordered to donate $1,000 to the Bahamas Immigration Department and $1,000 to the Grand Cay All Age School. The others pleaded guilty to the illegal landing and were given an absolute discharge.

Additionally, George Fritzgerald was charged with breach of the Fisheries Act in court one before Magistrate Debbye Ferguson. He pleaded guilty to possession of under sized crawfish, under sized conch, stone crab and filet fish.

Magistrate Ferguson fined him $3,000 on each count or six months in prison at Her Majesty’s Prison, Fox Hill.
