THE Bahamas Humane Society will host another free distemper vaccine clinic on Wednesday to assist pet owners who cannot afford to vaccinate their dogs from the deadly virus.
The clinic will be held from 2pm to 7pm at the Carmichael Primary School on Carmichael Road.
The clinic is free of charge and is aimed at establishing a “ring of immunity” within New Providence to protect pets.
The BHS also advised that people who brought their dogs to Carmichael Primary on August 6 should return on August 20 for a second booster.
Animal health officials have warned that the distemper virus “is a highly contagious viral disease that is airborne and affects mostly puppies and some adult dogs”.
They have said that there is no treatment or cure for the disease, but it is preventable through vaccination.
It is not contagious to humans or cats.
Because of the virus outbreak, dog owners are advised to keep their pet on property and avoid off-property walks and play groups.
