EDUCATION Minister Jerome Fitzgerald inspected several schools on Grand Bahama to get a status update on repairs that were done during the summer break.
The work included refurbishments or replacements.
Most principals reported only minor repairs were needed, such as replacing screens and window operators, painting, tiling, replacement of light bulbs, fans, ballasts, doors, bathroom fixtures, cabinets, louvres, and the installation of air conditioning units. The minister indicated the contractors are seeking to address all concerns in the shortest possible time.
Mr Fitzgerald expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the school repairs thus far on Grand Bahama. He also credited the administration, staff and students for the excellent condition of the campuses and encouraged principals to continue to teach their students to respect each other and their schools’ property.
Joined by Deputy Director of Education Sandra Edgecombe and Superintendent Dorothy Kemp, the minister did a walkabout on the following campuses: Catholic High School; Jack Hayward High School; Beacon School; West End Primary School; Holmes’ Rock Primary School; Martin Town Primary School; Eight Mile Rock High School; Bartlett Hill Primary School; Lewis Yard Primary School; Hugh W Campbell Primary School; Walter Parker Primary School; Freeport Primary School; Maurice Moore Primary School; East End Primary School; St George’s and Mary P Russell High School.
The minister will tour several schools in New Providence today.
