THE Bahamas’ under-12 boys team advanced to the finals of the ITF/GSDF Wilson English Caribbean US Championships with a 2-1 victory over Curacao on Thursday.
In the number two singles, Kofi Bowe lost 0-4, 4-5 (6) to Curacao’s No.2 player. The Bahamas No.1 seed Jacobi Bain won easily over Curacao’s No.1 4-0, 4-0 to even the tie one all.
Bain and Bowe clinched a spot in the finals by winning the doubles 4-1, 4-1. The Bahamas boys are scheduled to play Bermuda today for their second consecutive title.
The Bahamas under-12 clinched their trip to Mexico on Thursday as well with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Curacao.
Donesha Gibson, playing No.2 in singles, lost to Curacao’s No.2 2-4, 4-1, 8-10. The Bahamas’ top seed Emma Weech had to dig deep to pull the Bahamas even with a 4-1, 2-4, 11-9 win over Curacao No.1 seed. With the tie even, it came down to the doubles to decide who goes to Mexico to play in the Masters under-12 event.
The Bahamas team of Gibson and Weech took us on a roller coaster ride to a third set match tie break win over Curacao 5-4 (2), 2-4, 10-5. The Bahamas girls will play Suriname in the final pool round robin today.
