A 29-year-old man who was shot multiple times during a drive-by shooting on Saturday died in hospital early yesterday morning.
His death brings the country’s murder count to 84 for the year, according to Tribune records. He is the sixth person to be killed since Saturday.
Police say the victim, who has been identified as Delano Brice, was walking on Quackoo Street when he was shot multiple times by persons driving a Toyota.
He was reportedly walking home after attending a friend’s funeral. He was taken to hospital where he was listed in critical condition, however, he died of his injuries around 8am Wednesday.
Superintendent Stephen Dean said police currently have no one in custody for this murder.
However, he said, the recent killings and shootings in the capital led police to conduct several special operations that resulted in the arrest of 52 persons.
“We can tell you, based on what has been happening, we have mounted numerous operations throughout New Providence. Over the past two evenings we have had major operations led by Assistant Commissioner Leon Bethel. Thus far, overall we have pulled in at least over 50 persons who were arrested for various serious offences. They are in custody. Police will continue to reassure members of the public that their safety is of paramount importance to us, and so we will do everything to increase our visibility on the streets,” he said.
“We do not have anyone in custody for this latest murder at the moment. We have launched an active investigation. Someone knows what happened. Someone heard what happened. Someone knows who the criminal is. There is no need to keep things in isolation. We can reassure you that if you bring information, it will be kept in the strictest confidence. We want you to know that you can find a trusted officer, you can find someone to give that information. That person who you may be holding back could be the very person who could shoot somebody else or who could cause your death.”
Most recently, Latore Mackey, deputy director of Bahamas Information Services and press secretary to Prime Minister Perry Christie, was shot and killed around 4:30am on Monday on Market Street.
Police have made several arrests in connection to the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.

We cannot arrest our way out of this, there is no place to put them & the problems deep. The poverty, poor education, unemployment, irresponsible baby making feeds the crime. Then u have an influx of illegals putting further strains on the system. We've got to stop the illegals, stop the irresponsible baby machines, and focus on educating young kids. Its sad to say that many of our violent criminals, young men of a lost generation are so far gone that life in prison or death is the only solution for them. They are now harden killers..

Very well put Bahamianpride. But who will do it and when? Where do we start. Trust me its not that hard, implement and enforce rules and laws.. is a great place to start.. But be fair. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. But, because the fish stinks at the top, naturally, the bottom follows. Sad, Sad Sad. Tourism will decrease and Residents who want better will leave....soonest. This has nothing to do with politics, they have all failed the Bahamian people.

Now ya see...this one is not going to be classified as murder...you see...he was shot and survived the initial attack...the fact that he died in hospital is the hospitals fault...not the shooters...so it doesn't count towards the murder rap! ;-)
