GOOMBAY SPLASH BOWL

THE Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association completed the Goombay Splash Bowl International Junior Tennis Tournament at the National Tennis Centre over the weekend. The event comprised of both an under-18 and an under-14 division.

In the boys’ 14s singles, Kyle Frost of Barbados won the title with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Andrew Maura of the Bahamas. On their way to the final, Frost eliminated Jacobi Bain of the Bahamas 6-1, 6-3 in the semi-final and Maura on 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 over Bahamian Donte Armbrister.

In the girls’ 14s singles, Bahamian Elana Mackey, the top seed, won 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 over No.2 seed Sydney Clarke, also from the Bahamas. It was an all-Bahamian field with Mackey winning 6-0, 6-0 over Donesha Gibson in the semi-finals and Clarke beat Emma Weech 6-2, 6-2.

Jacobi Bain and Lyle Frost teamed up as the top seeds to win the boys’ doubles title 6-1, 6-2 over No.2 seed Donte Armbrister and Arnav Umesh of India.

The girls’ doubles title went to the top seeded team of Sydney Clarke and Elana Mackey with a 6-4, 6-0 win over No.2 seeds Donesha Gibson and Emma Weech.

BASEBALL

JBLN PRESEASON

THE Junior Baseball League of Nassau is scheduled to continue its preseason 6:30pm Wednesday at the St Andrew’s Field of Dreams with the Pirates taking on the Astros in the minor division. There is also a game slated for 6:30pm Friday when the Giants take on the Twins in the major league. A series of games are on tap, starting 10am Saturday.
