MICHAEL Major Jr lived up to his billing as the No.1 seed in the boys’ 8s division by capturing his first international singles tennis championship title.
Major Jr took 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 victory over Canadian Nils Vercuryssen in the 2014 Lil Mo International at the PGA Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Daniel Clivio made it to the boys’ 9s doubles final with his German partner Moritz Kundernatsch, but they lost the title 0-6, 1-6 to the American team of Golvin and Salu.
Jacobi Bain lost in the boys’ 11s semi-finals to Christopher Li (PER) 3-6, 5-7 in a very close match where Bain had two set points in the second set. Bain finished in 4th place after he lost to his American opponent Gabriel Guzauskas 1-6, 3-6 in the consolation round.
Team Bahamas’ results were outstanding considering our population size and the small pool of competitors. The curtains closed as the Bahamas juniors made it a strong showing by winning one division, a finalist in doubles and a 4th place finish in a third division.
The team, which also featured Emma Weech, was coached by Bradley Bain.
