DNA men's group hands gifts to home for the elderly

By RICARDO WELLS

RESIDENTS of the Mary Ingraham Home for the Elderly have been given two flat-screen televisions, water coolers and a microwave by the Men’s Alliance of the Democratic National Party.

Yesterday, a number of DNA representatives, including party leader Branville McCartney and deputy leader Christopher Mortimer, presented the $2,000 worth of appliances to the home’s administrator, Glorian Storr.

Ms Storr said: “It is a wonderful gesture that is going to go a long way. The home was built for six seniors and to host up to 12 kids during the daytime. Both groups are going to enjoy the items given today.”

Men’s Alliance president Kristopher Gray said that the donation came as a result of the organisation visiting the facility last month to present staff and residents with a Thanksgiving meal.

“That initial visit sparked further conversations with workers about how to improve the quality of life for residents. Over the next few weeks, the Men’s Alliance collaborated with staff on a list of priority items which would raise the comfort level of the residents and improve the efficiency of staff tasked with caring for them.

“Through a series of dollar drives and other bipartisan fundraising efforts, more than $2,000 was raised to purchase new appliances and supplies for the home, proving that with a little hope, tenacity and collaboration, change can happen.”

Mr Mortimer said the Men’s Alliance had “set the bar on the party’s civic actions” and to positively impact lives around the country politics should be taken out of the issues. “We have to begin the work to take back our country. This is the way we in the DNA feel like we can do just that. We believe that change comes when you encourage change within people.”

The Men’s Alliance is a civic action arm of the DNA that works to enact change in the lives of people by “bringing hope” and “standing in the gap”, according to Mr Gray.
