POLICE cracked a major crime ring at the weekend which led to the arrest of 10 men and a woman for several armed robberies and “at least three” of the country’s latest murders.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean said the police, acting on intelligence, arrested 11 people late Saturday night who they suspect of being a part of a major armed robbery ring. Police also recovered a number of cell phones from the men and the woman, which they suspect were stolen during the robberies.
Police are also questioning the suspects in connection with “several” of the country’s latest murders.
“We found the suspects in possession of cell phones that were taken during armed robberies and were previously reported stolen. Several of those armed robberies also resulted in murders. So we believe they committed a series of robberies that turned into murder. We are confident we will be able to solve these crimes now that we have these persons in custody.”
Police also arrested six Jamaican women, two Dominican women and a Colombian woman for lewd dancing and solicitation for prostitution.
According to reports, police, acting on intelligence, went to a night club on Rosetta Street where they caught the women “in the act”.
They were taken into custody for breach of the Immigration Act and turned over to the Immigration Department. The owner was also arrested for breach of the Business Licence Act.
Police also arrested five other persons for various offences, including possession of dangerous drugs and stealing. Investigations continue.

The messengers got's it all wrong. Comrades wasn't there recent news headlines of the policeman's in raids arresting something like 70 people in one sweep? Has media even bothered followup on what, if any charges were brought? News reports carry statements by policeman's and government officials of increased heavily-armed policeman's patrols on the streets - even so there is no evidence it has had any positive impact.
