POLICE Commissioner Ellison Greenslade yesterday pledged that the Royal Bahamas Police Force, himself included, will be “up and about” heading into the Christmas holidays to ensure that “people can do their shopping with a sense of safety”.

Mr Greenslade made his statements at a press conference at police headquarters yesterday morning.

“We’ve briefed our officers so that every single man and woman in this force, including this commissioner will be up and about this afternoon, and up and about overnight and into tomorrow, right into Christmas Eve and Christmas so that people can do their shopping with a sense of safety,” Mr Greenslade said.

“We’ll have those lights flashing, you will see us out there talking to you. Don’t be surprised, we can turn up anywhere. So if a person out there is intending to create problems, I’m going to suggest you take another look at that.”

Earlier this month, Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean led a team of officers as they combed the Marathon Mall, Southwest Plaza and Bay Street, warning business people and store owners throughout the Bahamas ahead of the Christmas holidays to “be alert of their surroundings” to avoid being victims of crime and armed robbery.

ACP Dean said once the opportunity for crime has been removed, Bahamians will experience a “more peaceful Christmas season”.

You wann know why the murder rate aint going down? Go to a bank and get 5 stacks of $1.00 bills. Label a stack for each year from 2010 to 2014. Now take a dollar bill from each stack for each murder for which there was a conviction in that year. Now take the rest of bills and throw in the garbage. Then look at what you have left. That's how we throwing lives away in the Bahamas. Ok so you don't want to throw the bills away? So take them out the garbage and stack them up. That stack represents the persons who have committed murder in the Bahamas in the past five years and have not been convicted nor punished! So ok lets take away a few notes for those murderers who have themselves been killed and a few more for those who have killed more than once. But look at the size of that stack that remains (in society) And you still wann know why the crime problem (murder especially) ain't going no where?
