Some tips for the year 2015

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Coming to the end of year 2014, some issues and advice so we might have a better 2015.

(1) Teenagers if you would not show a photograph to your grandmother please don’t post it on the internet or send it to a boy friend or girlfriend because as sure as the sun rises in the east so will your photograph be posted and were the sun should not shine it will.

(2) Why do we still retain the trappings of the colonial past in how we address a gathering with the litany of titles and positions and then as if this is so solemn by saying – protocol having been established! Surely it is time we simply drop this matter? No one else uses it.

(3) Cable Bahamas and a funny item on their recording for services... you can send an email to, the address, and promptly within 24 hours one of our technicians will respond. Certain confirmation how inefficient we are even with emails, cells etc…

(4) Tinting of vehicles - just how can road traffic continue to approve what is blatantly illegal but today there are far too many vehicles driving around with pitch black tinting. We make the police work much harder, let alone it is illegal.

(5) Vehicle Insurance should be required for 12-months not 90-days for the purpose of licensing. Far too many people find someone with no insurance hits you and then what?

(6) BTC fixed lines dropped calls – just how does this continue? BTC solve the issue now we have all been suffering for years and it is getting worse.

(7) Playing of our National Anthem – there is a grave danger that we are trying to Americanise the orchestration like you hear at the beginning of a US Football game – sorry, stop, this is not allowed. The recording that is available on Cable Bahamas should be deleted.

(8) Flying of our national flag and the correct colours – well as of last Independence we no longer have available the correct national flag. Incredible, but true, The Bahamas was warned by the British when we chose the turquoise blue, but we were not interested; now we have a Chinese version of our flag flying everywhere even at the office of the Prime Minister. Surely it is time to take down the flags that were erected for July 10, 2014? One should not fly faded or torn flags. Flying of flags of other countries except the Bahamas – this is illegal except at Diplomatic offices and residences. Hotels, please note.

(9) Cable Beach roundabouts – can’t someone get some paint and paint directional arrows where a car should drive to follow the correct traffic flow – daily there are fender benders which cause our insurance premiums to rise.

(10) VAT - as Christians surely the powers at the Ministry of Finance will see that it is questionable that VAT will be charged on Health Insurance. Premiums are high already and for those on fixed incomes this is no joke. Have a heart wellness and getting well is a fundamental right.

I think if all of the above points are corrected with the amendments required to the Bail Act we will be better off as we head into 2015.

Merry Christmas please not happy holidays...we are celebrating the birth of Christ, not a holiday given by a government.
