FREEPORT – Bahamian and US authorities discovered $2 million worth of cocaine, hidden among bags of coffee, in a container at the Freeport Container Port on Tuesday.
The discovery was made shortly before 8am while authorities were searching a 20ft container.
Inspector Terecita Pinder reported that officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit, along with Bahamas and US Customs, found three large black bags among some bags of coffee.
She said one bag contained 30-black taped packages of suspected cocaine. Each of the other two bags contained 25-silver-taped packages of suspected cocaine.
Inspector Pinder said authorities seized a total of 80-taped packages.
She said the drugs weighed 209 pounds and have an estimated street value of some $2 million.
Inspector Pinder was unable to say where the container came from or where it was headed.
No arrest was made. Police are continuing their investigations into the matter.
