Man, 21, killed as motorbike hits pole

A 21-year-old man became the country’s latest traffic fatality when his motorcycle hit a utility pole and a garbage container.

The accident occurred late Monday night. The victim died of his injuries on Tuesday.

According to reports, shortly after 8pm Monday the cyclist was riding a Honda 650 trial motorcycle when he hit a silver coloured vehicle. The impact of the crash caused the victim to lose control of his motorcycle and slam into a pole and a garbage container.

He was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle and died the following day.

Investigations into this matter continue.

In crime news, police are asking for the public’s help in solving a shooting incident that has sent a man to hospital.

It happened around 9:30pm Tuesday.

Police say the victim was walking on Homestead Street when two men armed with a handgun shot him in his thigh and then fled on foot.

He was taken to hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Police are also looking for a man who robbed a woman of her handbag early Tuesday morning.

It happened around 10am.

Police say the woman was at a business establishment on Rugby Drive when a man, armed with a handgun, robbed her of her handbag containing cash and other personal items before fleeing in a grey coloured vehicle.

Anyone with information on any of these incidents is asked to contact the police immediately.
