Mario Carey, president and chief executive of Mario Carey Realty (MCR), is moving to diversify foreign direct investment (FDI) source markets after being named the exclusive brokerage for the BISX-listed Sapphire Venture Fund .
A group of 10 Bahamas- based businessmen led by Tony Joudi, president of FTC Ltd, and including Mr Carey, are visiting Dubai and Abu Dhabi this week to introduce the fund to wealthy investors and financial institutions in an effort to boost the Bahamian economy.
Mr Carey said there were numerous business possibilities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the Bahamas needs to take advantage of them.
He encouraged the Government to facilitate the relationship by easing visa requirements, as it has done with China; initiating direct flights between the UAE; and possibly using Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) as a hub for the Emirates airline.
Mr Carey said the UAE and the Bahamas have much in common, including ‘the Palm Islands’ and ‘the World’, which are man-made island developments that demonstrate the UAE’s understanding of the value of real estate.
