ARCHBISHOP Nicola Girasoli, Apostolic Nuncio of the Roman Catholic Church, was in the Bahamas this week for high level meetings of the regional directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies.
The bishops, priests, monks, nuns and laymen who make up the PMS in this region discussed the way ahead in taking the Light of Christ to the poor and disenfranchised by inspiring all baptised Christians to realise the call to be missionaries.
Archbishop Girasoli was in attendance to represent Pope Francis, as the meetings fall directly under the Pontiff’s ambit.
Ordained to the priesthood in 1980, Archbishop Girasoli was appointed nuncio to Zambia and Malawi in 2006, and titular archbishop of Egnazia Appula.
He received his episcopal consecration the following March from Cardinal Angelo Cardinal Sodano, cardinal secretary of state and cardinal-bishop of Ostia.
In October 2011, he was appointed apostolic delegate to the Antilles, and nuncio to Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Dominica, Jamaica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and Grenadines, Suriname and Guyana.
In December, 2011, he also became nuncio to Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados.
Yesterday, Archbishop Girasoli paid a courtesy call on the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Philip Davis.
The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Goodman’s Bay Corporate Centre on Cable Beach. The Apostolic Nuncio was accompanied by Archbishop of the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands, Patrick Pinder.
