THE partially decomposed body of a man was discovered in a shallow grave on a Coral Harbour beach Saturday afternoon.
The discovery was made around 5:30pm.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Anthony Ferguson, said officers received information that a body was seen near the beach partially covered in sand.
“Around 5:30pm police received a report that the partially decomposed body of a human being was seen on the eastern end near the sea at Coral Harbour. As a result of this information officers from the Southwestern Division and other uniformed officers responded and saw the partially decomposed body of a human being buried in a shallow grave,” he said.
“Detectives and crime scene officers were summoned to the scene once the body was unearthed. From all indication it appears to be the remains of a male. The circumstances surrounding the incident is still sketchy and we have no further details at this time. This investigation is in its early stages and we will have more answers as we probe.”
ACP Ferguson said police could not say at this time if the man was murdered or how long he had been dead. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death
The man was wearing a white t-shirt, light grey coloured long pants with a white cloth belt and a pair of blue, red and white Nike Air Jordans.
Paul Rolle, Officer in Charge of the Central Detective Unit, said police are appealing to anyone who may not have seen their family members in a while to contact police immediately. He also said police are reaching out to a few families who have filed missing persons reports in the past few weeks.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers at 328-TIPS.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
