ACTIVISTS are calling for greater accountability from criminal lawyers after a morning shooting left a man fighting for his life in hospital yesterday.
According to police, the victim was standing outside his home in Yellow Elder Gardens when he was gunned down by the occupants of a small white Nissan car sometime around 10.30am.
Yesterday, Khandi Gibson, representative of Families of All Murder victims (FOAM), said: “Moving forward, we can’t compare ourselves with other countries but lawyers now have to be held accountable for taking their clients’ money and going to the courts and asking the judge to grant them bail.”
She added: “Lawyers have to be more accountable for their clients. The main problem here in Nassau is no one is held accountable for nothing. “Accountability needs to be done now because so much persons are getting killed.”
Paul Rolle, CDU chief, said the victim was rushed into surgery at the Princess Margaret Hospital after he received gunshot wounds to the head and chest area. He was taken to hospital in a private vehicle from his home at Nickel’s Court.
Mr Rolle said investigators have taken one man into custody for questioning, but believe that there were three persons in the vehicle - two of them shooters.
Ms Gibson said: “We’re looking for the government to review the criminal laws.”
The shooting incident was in earshot of Dandelion Primary School, which faces the subdivision on the opposite side of the highway.
Yesterday, the children could be heard playing on lunch break as police were at the crime scene.
Mr Rolle urged potential witnesses to the shooting to come forward with information.
