A MAN was arraigned in Magistrates Court yesterday in connection with the shooting and robbery of a COB assistant professor and her son inside their home.

Adrian Stubbs, 22, faced three counts each of armed robbery and attempted murder – and a single charge of receiving – when he stood before Chief Magistrate Joyanne Ferguson-Pratt concerning the February 11 incident in a home off Tonique Williams-Darling Highway.

Stubbs was informed that he need not enter a plea to any of the charges.

It is alleged that on the day in question, he attempted to kill Judith, Martin and Moses Blair while robbing the family of $2100 cash, a laptop, a $700 Samsung cellphone, a wallet that held a driver’s license and Canadian citizenship card and a red bag worth $90.

He is further alleged to have received the laptop belonging to Judith Blair.

Judith Blair, 68, and her son Marvin Blair, 34, were shot when two masked gunmen broke into their home as Mrs Blair was tutoring her 14-year-old grandson around 2:30pm. The gunmen made off with cash and other items after the shooting.

Mrs Blair was shot in her stomach, while her son was shot in his torso which required immediate medical attention.

Chief Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt told the accused he would reappear before her on May 15 for his case to be fast-tracked to Supreme Court for trial through a Voluntary Bill of Indictment.

Stubbs, who was not represented in yesterday’s proceedings, declined to say anything when given the opportunity to do so by the magistrate.

“You seem like you wanted to say something,” she said.

“No ma’am,” Stubbs replied after a three second pause.

“That’s okay. I just wanted to make sure because I know you are not represented by an attorney,” she concluded before remanding him to Her Majesty’s Prison.

In a separate arraignment prior to this, a 19-year-old was accused to wielding a submachine gun during a carjacking.

Troy Carey was arraigned on a charge each of armed robbery and receiving, alleged to have been committed on February 6. His victim was Winston Davis.

He is claimed to have robbed Mr Davis of his 2000 white Nissan Sunny, a nokia cellphone and his passport while armed with a .40 Kel-Tec submachine gun.

He is further accused of receiving the car between February 6 and 11.

Carey was not required to plead to the charges. He is to reappear in the Magistrates Court on May 13 for his case to be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court for trial through a Voluntary Bill of Indictment.
