A MAN accused of firing multiple shots in Hammerheads on East Bay Street last weekend was arraigned in Magistrate Court yesterday on two counts of attempted murder.
However, 24-year-old Eric Stuart, of Pinewood Gardens, told Magistrate Andrew Forbes that he was not only assaulted in police custody but “I have no knowledge of this matter”.
Magistrate Forbes, in noting the former complaint, replied that “that issue is a matter for trial sir.”
Stuart is accused of attempting to kill Renaldo Larrimore and Ricardo Smith on the early morning of February 22.
There was an altercation in the bar between a man and several off duty police officers before the man left to a car, and produced a gun that he proceeded to open fire with.
About 200 people were reported to in the bar at the time of the incident.
Stuart, who denied knowledge of the incident, was not required to enter a plea to the charges due to their nature.
He is scheduled to reappear in Chief Magistrate Joyanne Ferguson-Pratt on March 10.
On that occasion, he will receive a date to be served with a Voluntary Bill of Indictment, a document that will fast-track his case to Supreme Court for trial.
He was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison without bail but informed of his right to apply for bail to the higher court.
Stuart was not legally represented in yesterday’s arraignment.
