BAHAMIANS from all walks of life will once again have an opportunity to join together while supporting local charities on February 15 during the annual One Bahamas Unity Walk.
Each year, One Bahamas directly donates proceeds from the Unity Walk to selected charities.
The 2014 Unity Walk will support the Bahamas Sailing Association’s National Sailing School, Swift’s Let Swim Bahamas programme, and the Urban Renewal Foundation.
The date, as well as the charities selected to benefit from the event, were announced during a courtesy call on Governor General Sir Arthur Foulkes at Government House.
In addition to direct sponsorships, the Unity Walk provides an opportunity for all charities in the Bahamas to raise much-needed funds by giving each charity $5 of the $15 registration fee for every person who registers under the charity’s name.
Groups can be formed by members of a service organisation such as Rotary or Kiwanis or be made up of corporate employees.
This non-partisan, non-political Unity Walk draws thousands of Bahamian residents to walk together each year as one unified group symbolic of the strength and friendship of the Bahamian people.
Major corporate sponsors of the One Bahamas Unity Walk include Atlantis, BTC, Nassau Container Port, Nassau Harbour Pilots Association and RBC Royal Bank (Bahamas) Ltd.
The One Bahamas Foundation was formed in 1992 by Sir Orville Turnquest, Sir Durward Knowles and Algernon Allan with the objective of unifying all people who live in the Bahamas as one family of Bahamians.
One of the goals of One Bahamas is to inspire every resident of the Bahamas to contribute to their nation by encouraging unity, equality, loyalty, good citizenship, industry and an abiding respect for good values and the rule of law.
