IN AN uncommon preventative step, Lyford Cay International School (LCIS) has partnered with ASI Security Inc of Colorado to better prepare their staff, students and families for unexpected emergencies.
“We are so fortunate that we have operated for more than 50 years without any significant security issues,” said principal, Stacey Bobo. “But we also realise the value in being prepared and having a fully trained staff that knows what to do in any emergency situation.”
ASI provides customised safety and emergency preparedness consulting to schools around the world, with the goal of minimising the potential for serious injury during inclement weather, community violence, and accidents.
“All LCIS staff are CPR/First Aid certified, and the school already follows a comprehensive health and safety policy,” Ms Bobo said.
“We are always looking for opportunities to be proactive in keeping our students, staff, and campus safe and secure. I know, without a doubt, that our staff would go to any length to keep our students safe, and now I am confident that we have the tools to do that in the best possible way.”
Lyford Cay resident Jamie Dingman sponsored a three hour safety and emergency preparedness workshop facilitated by ASI Security Inc for all LCIS staff on November 22.
In addition to the workshop, ASI consultants spent 24 hours on site prior to the workshop, advising on current school health and safety policy and assessing emergency strategies with school administrators. School administrators and ASI staff also initiated an ongoing collaboration with POA Security, representatives of which attended the workshop.
LCIS is one of 218 schools worldwide that is a fully accredited International Baccalaureate (IB) school.
The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognising their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.
