THE Lyford Cay International School PTA has been extremely busy again.
Recently, they have organised and executed a very successful rummage sale and International Day lunch.
At the end of October, the PTA hosted a Whole School Bake Sale, which raised $2,600.
The majority of those funds ($2,000), was donated to help defray the medical costs of 12-year-old D’Quan Brown who is battling Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia.
D’Quan’s story was brought to the LCIS PTA by a Grade 7 student who wanted to try to help. Ironically, the LCIS PTA was already familiar with D’Quan’s family. It was D’Quan’s father, DeQuindo Brown, who generously supplied all of the party equipment to the school’s International Day of Giving last school year.
In fact, it was on the International Day of Giving last year that D’Quan was first diagnosed.
“That was the day that his son was diagnosed with leukemia, and he still came to our event with a smile on his face because he knew he was giving back to the community,” recalls PTA president, Chrissy Hennessy, adding, “How could we NOT help?”
D’Quan faces an uphill battle and still needs financial support. To learn more about D’Quan and how you can help please visit ww.gofundme.com/dquan.
