A FORMER Miss Bahamas beauty queen bowed out gracefully from the world of pageantry to pursue another dream. Ordain Moss, Miss Bahamas World 2005, launched her musical career last week with the release of her first single on iTunes.
The former beauty queen she would have performed during her pageant run if the competition offered a talent showcase. However, there was no outlet and she kept her skills under wraps until now.
“I entered the pageant in 2005 and the experience was definitely invaluable. It confirmed my love and passion for the stage,” she told In Ya Ear.
“I am ready to own my time, take advantage of my blessings, and pursue my vision. I believe that everything has a time and a season, and now is the time for me to birth my vision. I have been afforded so many tremendous opportunities by individuals who have been so instrumental in nurturing my vision and encouraging me to take it to the next level. Therefore, I believe that I have gained a great deal of experience through my mentorship and I am now ready to emerge into the local music arena. I truly believe that I have something fresh and new to offer to the music industry,” she said.
The 26- year-old human resource administrator always had a passion for the stage, that grew more intense after she completed high school. This year Ordain, or as she is affectionately called “O”, will return to the stage in a different capacity.
“The realisation for my love and talent for singing began during my childhood. I would introduce my father Edison Roberts with a solo of his choice shortly before he gave his sermon at church. All of that manifested when I was given the opportunity to be coached and mentored by master pianist and vocal coach Lee Callender and songstress and composer Joan Callender.
Although Ordain has a great appreciation for rap and hip hop, her most favourite genre is R&B and alternative rock. Her new song “Passion and Pleasure” which was released on iTunes falls under the R&B genre. Passion and Pleasure, she said was written to express her amazement for the power of music.
“I have always been amazed at the power of music and its ability to evoke a physical reaction. For example, my heart speeds up when I hear the screams of an electric guitar and I literally get goose bumps when hearing Jennifer Hudson sing,” she said.
Ordain is also currently preparing to release “Grab On My Waist”, a new song with a music video on January 28, which features female rap artist Nan Savage.
“The inspiration behind ‘Grab On My Waist’ came from fun and laughter in the studio; it was birthed out of pure comedy so we decided to go with it. It was written as an instructional dance song, and meant to display the same upbeat and fun feeling as the studio session,” she told In Ya Ear.
Other projects include collaborations with various artists, brand building, and performance preparations. Also on her agenda is focusing on the writing and production of her music.
