Two 'executed' in Abaco killings

By SANCHESKA BROWN and DENISE MAYCOCK

POLICE have several persons in custody in connection with two “execution style” murders in Abaco, which sources say are believed to have been the result of a drug deal gone wrong.

The first murder took place at around 2:50am Saturday. According to reports, officers were on patrol on SC Bootle Highway when they noticed the reflectors of a vehicle through a track road on the western side of the highway.

The officers followed the light and discovered a light blue Maxima with a man slumped over in the passenger seat with a gunshot wound to the back of the head.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not identified the victim but The Tribune understands he is 33-year-old Landris Lacaro Curry of Mount Hope, North Abaco.

Later, at around 9am, police got a tip which led them to another body, this time in bushes near Bahama Coral Island.

The victim was also shot in the back of the head.

The Tribune understands he was Drayson Forbes, also known as “Jamm”.

Inspector Terecita Pinder, press liaison officer for the northern Bahamas district, said police have launched an intense investigation into the homicides.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Emrick Seymour said investigators believe the two incidents are related.

“These two were men and very well known to police and we have reason to believe these were not random incidents and they were in fact related,’” he said.

“We have several persons in custody who are assisting us with our investigation. We cannot confirm or deny that the matters are drug related because we have no motive at this time.

“We will not speculate because we are not in the business to guess, but we do have some leads and we are in the middle of this investigation and I believe we will solve this matter shortly.”

A team of Grand Bahama investigators have joined New Providence officers in Abaco to assist with the investigation.

Anyone with information about either murder is urged to contact police in Abaco on 367-2560/367-3437, Grand Bahama police on 350-3107/8, 911/919 or call their nearest police station.

The country’s murder count now stands at six for the year.

To understand the crime associated with the drug trade, you must understand the profile of the drug dealer. Usually he is undereducated but street wise. He views the drug trade as his source of income. He builds his trade and establishes his territory. He generally makes more money selling drugs than he can make doing anything else. It is his livelihood..He protects it with his life because that is how important it is to him. So now many are losing their lives protecting their livlihoods. What will happen when the USA fully legalizes marijuana in say five to 6 years? What social and economic effects will it have on the Bahamas? Will crime increase or fall off?
