BAHAMIAN Brewery and Beverage has announced the start of the 2014 sculling season as well as their partnership with Eleazor Johnson and the first sculling event – the St Valentine Regatta – scheduled for February 15-16.
“The St Valentine Regatta is a great opportunity to showcase all things Bahamian, especially the Bahamian sport of sculling,” said Lynden Johnson, sales and marketing manager at Bahamian Brewery and Beverage.
“At the St Valentine Regatta, there will be sloop sailing with our E Class Boats, Sands, Sands Light, Strong Back and High Rock, and indeed – the Sands Man in the Boat Sculling Race.”
The Sands Man in the Boat Sculling schedule for 2014 starts with the St Valentine Regatta in February, the National Family Island Regatta in George Town, Exuma in April, Mangrove Cay Homecoming in May, Long Island in June, Abaco in July, West End, Grand Bahama in September with the Sculling Championship in November – to be held this year in Nassau.
Last year’s sculling champion was Clayton Bain, who became a the two-time champion, with Dennis Fox from Salt Pond, Long Island taking 2nd place and Clay Moxey, winner of the National Family Island Regatta, placing third.
The Brewery has been extremely successful in their mission to revitalise the sport of sculling and Mr Johnson invited all sailing and sculling fans to come out to the first event of the sculling season at St Valentine Regatta on February 16.
“It’s very nice to partner with Bahamian Brewery and Beverage on the sculling race as it’s something new and people look forward to coming out and competing for bragging rights,” said Eleazor Johnson, organiser of the St Valentine event. “I enjoy working with the Brewery team very much and look forward to working with them in future when it comes to sailing and sculling.”
