Living Waters Kingdom Ministries concluded a successful week of community outreach with a clothing drive to members of the Fort Charlotte constituency on Saturday. The church, in collaboration with Women Supporting Women Ministries of Florida, USA, gave away clothes to needy persons in the community. The drive was advertised to members of the constituency by the Fort Charlotte Urban Renewal division. The distribution began at 8am and scores of persons quietly lined up on the church grounds to choose from an assortment of adult and children’s clothes, blankets, stuffed animals and shoes.
Pastor Basil Johnson, director of evangelism and outreach, said: “Our passion is to not just be another church, but a church that is reaching out to the community and touching the lives of these people in more than a spiritual way.”
Constituency members could not hide their surprise when they saw that the clothes were in near perfect condition. Many of them feared they would receive soiled and torn clothing that nobody would want to wear. Excitement could be seen on the faces of children and adults alike as they selected an unlimited amount of clothes and packed them into boxes or garbage bags provided by the church. The community commended the church for stepping up and helping them in their time of need.
“I think it’s important to do this because it motivates the community to do better and helps people to understand that they are not alone,” said Britney Cooper, who lives in Chippingham. This feeling of gratefulness was expressed by many other constituency members who were happy to see a church in their area trying to give back and not just take away from the community. Many persons said they were able to pick out items for other family members who were also in need and could use the clothes.
The clothing drive was the last event for the church in a week of charitable deeds. Earlier in the week, the church donated to the Persis Rodgers Home for the Aged and the L.W. Young Junior High School. It is the heart of Apostle Raymond Wells to help those in need and make a significant impact in the community. Under the leadership of Apostle Wells, the church plans to conduct street services in areas that experience high levels of crime and organise more clothing and food drives throughout the year.
