BASKETBALL

ROLLE SHINES AGAIN

WALTIEA Rolle earned the top performer award again this week by BGBasket.com for her outstanding performance in the NBL League, Bulgaria. Haskovo 2012 beat out No.6 team Rilski Sportist with an 85- 62 win.

The top scorer for the team was Rolle with an efficiency rate of 26 leading the league for round 15. Rolle finished with 25 points, 16 rebounds, two assists and two steals. The team led for three quarters, except during the third when they were down 18-16. Haskovo would come back to take the lead and the win.

The team will face Montana 2003 rank No.4 (8-5) on Sunday.

CRICKET

BCA ACTION

OVER the weekend, the Bahamas Cricket Association continued its regular season with eight games at Haynes Oval played on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, the Westerns defeated the Pacesetters by four wickets. The Pacesetters batted first and scored 165 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Jonathon Barry scored 48 runs not out and Ryan Tappin 32 runs. Bowling for the Westerns, O Stuart took two wickets.

The Westerns responded with 167 runs in 18.5 overs for the loss of four wickets. Lance Liston scored 46 runs not out and Wayne Patrick 19 runs not out. Lee Melville had two wickets for the Pacesetters.

On Sunday, St Georges defeated St Albans. St Georges batted first and scored 117 runs in 15 overs for the loss of five wickets. Jermaine Adderley scored 30 runs not out and Vianny Jacques 28 runs for St Georges.

Greg Taylor and Andre Dosrames had two wickets each for St Albans. St Albans scored 94 runs for the loss of nine wickets all out in 12.5 overs.

Henry Williams and Jermaine Adderley had three wickets, and Kapry Kemp one wicket. Games are slated to continue this Saturday and Sunday at the Haynes Oval cricket pitch.

BSF CALENDAR

AFTER taking a break for the Christmas holiday, the Bahamas Swimming Federation is now preparing for the start of its 2014 season, which will see swimmers moving up in their respective age groups. The following meets are on tap for the month of January:

• Barracuda Swim Club at the Betty Kelly Kenning Aquatic Swim Club Friday, January 31 at 6pm and Saturday, February 1 at 9am.

BSC FAMILY FUN

RUN/WALK

THE Baptist Sports Council is scheduled to hold its annual Family Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, February 1.

The event will begin at 6am from the Charles W Saunders High School, Jean Street with the runners and the walkers travelling in two different directions. The categories in both segments for male and female will be 15-and-under, 19-and-under, 30-and-under, 40-and-under, 50-and-under and over-50.

The registration fee is $10. Trophies will be presented to the first three finishers in each category. The event is open to the public.

BOXING

CABC SHOW

CHAMPION Amateur Boxing Club, in conjunction with Platinum Sports Entertainment, is getting ready to host its “Best of the Best” Amateur Boxing Show on February 1 at the Platinum Sports Entertainment Centre on Dowdeswell St and Christie Ave. The box-off starts at 8pm with the main attraction between Joshua Nixon and Johnny Nelegue, plus five other matches. Awards will be presented to most improved boxer, most outstanding boxer and best fight. All amateur boxers and boxing clubs are welcome.

BSC REGISTRATION

THE Baptist Sports Council has announced that a meeting to discuss the 2014 Basketball Classic is slated for 10am Saturday, February 1 at the Charles W Saunders High School, following the Family Fun Run/Walk Road Race.

All churches interested in participating in the basketball classic are urged to have two representatives present. The classic is scheduled to get started on Saturday, February 22. Once again, teams will be allowed to participate in the men, women, 19-and-under and 5-and-under divisions. The cost for registration is $200.00 per team per division.

THE Bahamas Softball Federation has released the names of the following players who have been invited to try out for the men’s national softball team:

Pitchers - Alcott Forbes, Lyle Sawyer (Abaco), Thomas Davis, Duval Storr, Chrisopher Russell (Andros), Jeffrey Woodside, Eugene Pratt and Adney Bethel (Grand Bahama)

Catchers - Angelo Dillette, Richard Bain, Zhivago Archer, Garfield Bethel, Stennard Duncombe, Grant Albury (Abaco) and Jamal Johnson

First Base - Hosea Hilton, Larry Russell Jr (Grand Bahama), Rashad Seymour, Ramon Johnson, Andrian Pinder and Weldon Pinder (Spanish Wells)

Second Base - Sidney Thomas (Grand Bahama), Kieron Munroe, Shaquel Delancey and Angelo Bulter

Shortstop - Geron Sands, Carlos Pratt (Spanish Wells), Ken Wood, Michael Sweeting (Grand Bahama) and Philip Johnson

Workout sessions are scheduled to begin 9am Saturday.

Thereafter, workouts are set for every Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm on and Saturdays at 9am.
