RELATIVES who became concerned after they didn’t see a man for three days discovered him stabbed to death in his home.

Shortly after 8am yesterday, police were called to a residence at Mackey Street near Fleming Street, where relatives found the body of a 53-year-old man lying on the floor with multiple stab wounds to the upper body.

Residents who live nearby identified the country’s seventh murder victim for the year as Ricardo “Ricky” Johnson.

CDU chief Paul Rolle said: “Relatives became concerned after not seeing [the victim] for a couple of days, and forced their way into the home where they made the discovery. We are appealing to members of the public who may have any information to reach out to local police to help us to resolve this.”

Mr Rolle said the family had not seen Mr Johnson for three days, adding that the condition of the body was still intact.

At the scene, resident Brusell Bradshaw, 78, said he was shocked to learn the man he’d watch grow up in the community had been stabbed to death.

Mr Bradshaw said: “He was a friendly guy, nice, he was an auto mechanic and lived on my corner. Over the years I found him to be a nice person, I knew him about 45 years. I was shocked when I heard the name, that it was Ricky that they found in his apartment, murdered.

“I knew him just about all his life.”

Anyone with information that can assist investigations is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
