Call for peace in the Bahamas

MINISTER of Youth, Sports and Culture Dr Danny Johnson called on young Bahamians who feel disillusioned or helpless to contact the Division of Youth right away.

Dr Johnson said he intends to meet personally with many of the young people who respond to his call, because he wants them to know they have opportunities and options, and may only need a little guidance.

The minister was speaking at the announcement of Peace Fest 2014, which will be held on Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1.

Peace Fest 2014 will bring together many of the Bahamas’ best entertainers in secular and gospel music, who will rally together to issue a clarion call for peace in the country, especially in New Providence, where an alarming crime epidemic has taken root.

Peace for life productions, Triple B Malt and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture are teaming up to present the event under the theme: “Aren’t We All Humans... Then Why Can’t We All Just Live in Peace?”

The Fest kicks off with a Peace Parade, which is expected to bring together hundreds of school children to march for peace.

The parade will culminate with a National Youth Peace Rally at Arawak Cay at 7pm.

A family fun day at Arawak Cay will kick off the second day. The Artists for Peace Concert will begin at the same venue at 6pm.

Several secular and gospel musicians will perform, including Landlord, Christian Massive, Najee Dunn, D Mac, Geno D, Funky D and Elon Moxey.

The events will culminate with a Peace for Life rally, where the headlining artists will also perform and send a united message to the nation.
