THE Bahamas 30-member swim team shone in the 50 metres breaststroke finals during the fourth night on Sunday at Caribbean Island Swimming Championships in Barbados.
At the end of the night, the Bahamas earned a total of 113 points with nine medals, including two gold, four silver and three bronze.
Albury Higgs led the way, winning the 13-14 girls’ 50 breast, breaking the record with a time of 34.99 seconds. She was joined a top of the podium by Izaak Bastian in the 11-12 boys’ 50 breast in 38.31.
Laura Morley got a silver in the girls’ 15-17 50 breast in 34.73, while Drew Bastian got a bronze on the 15-17 boys’ 50 breast in 31.30.
Other performances in the discipline came from Joshua Wong, 4th in the 13-14 boys’ 50 breast in 32.55 and Cecily Bowe, also 4th in the 11-12 girls’ 50 breast in 38.31. Victoria Russell was 5th in the 13-14 girls’ 50 breast in 36.01 and T’Lez Foulkes was 6th in the 11-12 50 breast.
Also on Sunday, Virginia Stamp picked up a silver medal in the 11-12 girls’ 200 back in 2:37.00 and Peter Morley was a bronze medalist in the 11-12 boys’ 200 back in 2:29.91. Lilly Higgs was 4th in the 13-14 girls’ 400 free in 4:43.15; Dionisio Carey got 4th in the 15-17 boys’ 200 back in 2:26.18; Celia Campbell was 6th in the 13-14 girls’ 200 back in 2:45.15.
In the relay competition, the boys 15-17 400 medley relay of Dionisio Carey, Drew Bastian, N’Nhyn Fernander, Kohen Kerr got the silver in 4:04.21; the boys 11-12 800 free relay of Samuel Gibson, T’Lez Foulkes, Izaak Bastian, Darren Laing won the silver as well in 9:11.67 and the girls 11-12 800 free relay of Tenniya Martin, Amber Pinder, Cecily Bowe, Virginia Stamp won the bronze in 10:00:02.
The meet wrapped up last night.
