JUSTIN Roberts, getting ready to represent the Bahamas at the Junior Olympic Games in China, had another successful week on the ITF Junior tour this week at the ITF Grade 2 Biesterbos Open 2014 in Castricum, Netherlands.
Seeded No.12 in singles, Roberts advanced to R16 by defeating Filipino Grbic (SRB) 6-3, 6-2 to face No.7 seed Xander Veys (BEL). In a tightly contested match, Roberts was defeated by eventual semi-finalist Xander 6-2, 6-7, 2-6.
In doubles, Roberts and partner Viktor Kostin (GER) were crowned champions this morning, defeating Filip Grbic (SRB) and Brandon Laubster (RSA) 7-6 ,6-4 after being down 3-5 and 1-4 in the first and second set respectively.
En-route to the final Roberts and Kostin defeated Tiki Oshina (JPN) and Benjamin Sigouin (CAN) 6-3, 6-3; Xander Veys (BEL) and Sam Taylor (SWE) 6-3, 7-6 and Mandresy Rakitomalala (FRA) and Louis Tessa (FRA) 6-0, 6-1.
Roberts, 17, and Rasheed Carey from Grand Bahama, have been selected by the ITF to represent the Bahamas at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games Tennis August 17-24 at the Tennis Academy of China.
