HE SAYS history depicted through art is not a tradition in the Bahamas but Kishan Munroe is working to rectify that with his much-publicised work, The Sinking of HMBS Flamingo.
In the foyer of the Senate yesterday the Prime Minister was among those opening Mr Munroe’s exhibition as part of the country’s 41st independence celebrations.
Striking in size and vivid pink hues, the painting portrays an infamous incident from 1980 which cost the lives of four Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) marines whose vessel was sunk by Cuban fighter jets.
The painting is part of a larger body of work, The Swan Song of The Flamingo, which was shown to acclaim at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas in March.
Mr Munroe says the painting was created specifically for the RBDF but also as a gift to the nation in commemoration of the marines’ ultimate sacrifice.

Munroe's next grand piece of art work should be devoted to "The Sinking of the PLP Ship" as "The Swan Song of Christie!"
