THE Free National Movement yesterday congratulated Dame Marguerite Pindling on her appointment as governor-general and welcomed her pledge to promote unity and transcend party politics.
“The Free National Movement extends warmest congratulations to Dame Marguerite Pindling on the occasion of her appointment to the high office of governor-general,” FNM Chairman Darron Cash said in a statement. “Dame Marguerite assumes her position as our country’s head of state at a time when the nation is highly charged and politically divided.
“The FNM is greatly encouraged by the new governor-general’s stated pledge to promote unity and harmony. In that regard, she will be continuing the work of her predecessor, Sir Arthur Foulkes, and that continued commitment to unifying the country should produce important benefit for all Bahamians. “The FNM will join Bahamians everywhere in praying for Dame Marguerite’s success.”
During her inaugural address on Tuesday, Dame Marguerite had pledged to serve all Bahamians to the best of her ability without political interference or regard for race or social class.
“I will at all times serve you to the very best of my ability without political distinction and without regard for race, class, social station or any of the other things that can stand between us or keep us apart,” she said.
“There is no greater or higher duty than a Governor-General can have than to bring our people ever closer together in love, in unity and in common purpose. I am absolutely determined to fulfil that duty without unwavering consistency and in the fullest possible measure.”

Comrades allow me to remind Tribune readers all about them many dirty tricks played out against anyone named Pindling ... cause there exists a long standing dishonourable tradition in the politics the red shirts party. For just one Bahamalander to think Chairman Daron and his colleagues are not engaged in some kind of an red illusion, claiming how they are ready to unhitch themselves from the years of their Pindlingmongering wagon, having overnight hitched themselves onto Mrs. Pindling's yeasayer's wagon ... in other words a pretty ballsy act to even attempt to pull off, considering how the Chairman and his red colleagues have no stomach for Mrs. Pindling coming anywhere close to, much less moving her sticks into Government House. Tis' pretty risky business for any red to dare even pay lip service to Mrs. Pinding as our nation's 10th Governor-General, when it is guaranteed to run an even wider divide between the already fragile leadership of Her Majesty's government-in waiting.
