AUTHORITIES have arrested another suspect in connection with the stabbing death of 18-year-old Hayward Thompson of Palmetto Point, Eleuthera.

According to reports, the suspect, a 22-year-old man also of Palmetto Point, was arrested on Wednesday shortly before 7pm. Earlier in the week police had issued a wanted bulletin for the suspect. Police in Eleuthera received information that the man was seen in Hatchet Bay where he was taken into custody following a short foot chase.

On Tuesday, police said they took four men ages 32, 29, 25 and 18 from Palmetto Point into custody for questioning into the murder.

Thompson’s body was discovered around 9am Sunday, July 6, in an unfinished building at T W Alley and Culmer Street in North Palmetto Point.

He was stabbed in the back, arm and neck, The Tribune understands. Police were alerted to the body by a passerby who noticed blood on nearby steps.

Katie Thompson, Hayward’s mother, said her son had recently reported death threats to police which he received in Governor’s Harbour.

Ms Thompson said she was shocked to learn that her son was beaten and stabbed to death less than a month after his birthday.

The teenager turned 18 on June 15, his family said.

While investigations into the death are continuing, police are urging anyone with information to contact them at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
