THIS summer, St Agnes Parish has been staging exciting activities in celebration of the season they call the “Evangelism Months”.

During the months of June and July, the Evangelism Ministry sought to engage its membership in exercises that highlighted the Evangelistic message of Mark 16:15: “(And Jesus said to them), go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

Rector of the parish, Archdeacon I Ranfurly Brown, started June with an enlightening sermon to call on all members to be witnesses for Christ in their daily lives.

Members said he admonished the congregation to follow Christ’s example and to let their lights shine among men so that others could see Him at work in their lives. The rector continued this message in the church’s weekly bulletin and invited the congregation to become active in ministry.

Also featured during these months of activities were walkabouts which took place in the Bain and Grants Town community. Here, members partnered with the Grants Town Urban Renewal team who joined in a street mission.

Corp Brown of Grant’s Town Urban Renewal prepared the members for the street. Tribune Religion was told that these walkabouts provided opportunities for the church members to come from within the four walls of the church and interact with the community. Members said the residents were very happy to see the church bringing ministry to them and they were able to engage in fellowship and prayer with the community.

In preparation for their months of activity, Archbishop Drexel Gomez devoted a full Bible study session to the practical aspects of Evangelism.

“He stated that in Evangelism we must find ways to make Jesus relevant and to find common ground to reach the persons you are targeting. From this session Archbishop coined this definition of Evangelism as ‘proclaiming Jesus, persuading people to consider Him, inviting people to give Him their allegiance and inviting persons to discovery Him in the company of His followers, to discover a whole new way of being human, living a life of hope, love, gentleness, forgiveness, generosity. In this way people are brought to acknowledge that Jesus is Lord,” said members of the parish.

The culmination of the months of activities is set to be a grand “Evangelism Explosion in the Park” scheduled to take place at the Hospital Lane Park this Friday. July 18, beginning at 7pm.

Among the featured artists are the St Agnes Parish Youth Choir and Christian Massive. It promises to be a night of inspirational music, soul-stirring testimonies and prayer. Members said no one will leave the same way they came.
