Public help sought after shooting and stabbings

POLICE are asking for the public’s help in solving a shooting and two separate stabbing incidents.

The latest incident occurred just after 1:30pm yesterday when a man was shot while sitting in front of a house on Fleming Street. Police were told that two men were sitting outside the residence when a man armed with a handgun approached them.

One of the men was shot in the abdomen before the gunman fled on foot.

The victim was taken to hospital where he is detained in serious condition.

Police also said that two men were stabbed in separate incidents, leaving both in hospital.

Shortly after 2am on Monday, a man was involved in an altercation with a man known to him in the Montell Heights area that resulted in him being stabbed in his abdomen.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

A day earlier, just after 2pm on Sunday, police said a man was in a fight with his girlfriend at his home in the Kennedy Subdivision. During the argument, his girlfriend stabbed him in the neck with a knife, police said.

Armed robbery

Police also reported that a gunman robbed a woman as she was walking on Cameron Street off Market Street just after 10pm on Sunday.

The suspect stole the woman’s cell phone and cash before running away, police said. Investigations are continuing.

Murder suspect arrested

Mobile Division officers took a 24–year-old man of Baltic Avenue in New Providence into custody shortly before 1pm on Sunday for questioning in connection with a murder that occurred in 2008.

The suspect also will be questioned in connection with a number of armed robberies and shooting incidents, police said.
