Empty seats

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Looking through some of the photos of this year’s independence celebrations I was struck by the number of empty seats in the reserved areas.

July 9th, Clifford Park there is a photograph of Opposition Leader Hubert Minnis with Carl Bethel and behind them rows after rows of empty chairs. Wonder who was invited and did not attend?

This year, I watched the eve of the 10th on TV and again on the east side of the official platform where the GG and PM sit there were rows on rows of empty chairs.

Usually, ZNS shows the visiting diplomats, but this year seemingly there were few to be seen.

At one stage, the cameras went across where I recognised one or two permanent secretaries and I wondered where were the rest?

Unfortunately, it seems the importance of the eve of Independence event at Clifford Park is losing its importance as year after year you see a reduced number of people, except when the police put on the Tattoo.
