Bahamasair has partnered with the Ministry of Tourism (MOT) as it works to attract passengers for its West Palm Beach to Nassau service.

Woody Wilson, the airline’s senior sales manager, said Bahamasair brought in Jay Zeager, the morning show host of 95.9 FM Seaview Radio in West Palm Beach, for a four-day stay to promote the service.

Mr Wilson said: “We asked him to come over and broadcast live from here, and we have paired him with Star 106 here in Nassau.”

The talk show host appeared on Star to talk about West Palm Beach, while the hosts from the local radio station, Tony Williams and Greg Lampkin, talked about what the Bahamas has to offer visitors.

“This is where our partnership with the Ministry comes in,” Mr Wilson said. “We actually made sure that Jay saw everything there was to see. We did not want him to just come and see the hotel, but we wanted him to come and experience our culture, our food and just have a good time in the Bahamas.”

Mr Wilson said that on Jay’s return to West Palm Beach, he was to do a drawing for one of his listeners to win a trip to visit the Bahamas.

“So he is going to be telling one of them of the wonderful time he had, and then he is going to give one winner an opportunity to come to the Bahamas and experience what he did.

“Then, on the flip side, Tony and Greg will do the same thing. They will give a listener here in the Bahamas an opportunity to win a trip to go over to West Palm Beach,” he added.

“So for Bahamasair, the nation’s flag carrier, we need traffic in both directions. This is the way for us to bring everybody together.”

The West Palm Beach talk show host swam with the dolphins at Dolphin Encounters and visited Educulture, where he and his guest learned the history of Junkanoo.

They also ate at The Poop Deck and experienced eating fresh conch underneath the bridge at Potter’s Cay Dock.

“The fish kind of freaked me out because it looked like an actual fish. It had the head on the fish; we are not used to seeing that,” Jay said.

On Friday evening, they attended the Summer Junkanoo Festival where they tried out Bahamian cuisine.

“I am excited to go home and give one of our listeners a trip and let them come here and experience all of this,” Jay added. “We are going to be giving away one trip on Tuesday morning and then we are going to be doing another trip later in the year.”

Jay said he will also try and promote the Summer Junkanoo Festival as well as the Boxing Day and New Year’s Junkanoo Parades.

“We are hoping that our winner on Tuesday will take the trip and come back next weekend to be able to see the Summer Junkanoo Festival, and then when we give another trip away later on in the year, we are really going to promote that they do the Boxing Day and the New Year’s Day Parades,” he added.
