POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 45-year-old woman who died suddenly at a home on 6th Street, Coconut Grove.
According to police, the woman died around 10:30pm Wednesday.
Police also reported that officers seized a handgun and ammunition around 10:45pm on Wednesday.
Drug Enforcement Unit Officers, acting on intelligence, conducted a search of a bushy area behind a building located on Quakoo Street, where they uncovered a handgun with a quantity of ammunition. No one was arrested for this seizure.
Police also reported that 27 people were arrested in two separate special operations.
A team of officers from the Southern Division conducted a major police operation in the division on Wednesday night. The officers targeted a number of persons wanted for a number of major and minor offences. This resulted in the arrest of 16 persons for various crimes.
One of those arrested was a 20-year-old man wanted for a number of armed robberies.
The officers also shut down a nightclub on East Street south and another on Market and King Streets for operating in breach of the Business License Act.
In the second operation, a team of officers from the Eastern Division targeted a number of persons wanted for a number of major and minor offences.
The operation resulted in the arrest of five persons for housebreaking, three for possession of dangerous drugs, two for causing harm, one for firearm possession and one for breach of the Immigration Act.
