Gearing up for what will be it’s second all-access seminar, the iCreate Music Magazine and Events team has expanded its brand, imagery and line-up with the goal of giving Bahamian and visiting artists alike something to rival other music networking events around the world.
Creator Gregory A. Collie II, no stranger to music or the industry that surrounds it, said he wanted to bring home the experiences he has had travelling internationally.
He said he understands the artists’ struggle and the seminar is geared toward being budget friendly for locals as they will not have to incur travel and other expenses associated with attending global music seminars.
The line-up is set to include Platinum and Grammy award winning producers, songwriters, lawyers and engineers that will be presenting alongside sponsors as well as holding panel discussions to help to prepare and facilitate questions that those in attendance may have in regards to the music industry and its varied aspects.
The seminar is quickly gaining popularity and receiving a positive response from Bahamians in industry, most notably from the younger generation of local entertainers. “There is always something to be learned. No one knows the answer to every question, nor do they have every connection possible. This seminar was created to help bridge the gap. It was started in hopes that Bahamians especially would be able to network, to benefit, to advance from what they would’ve learned and who they would have met at this seminar,” he said.
When asked about what participants can expect, Mr Collie said: “An in-depth look at how to brand yourself as an artist, the art of networking and honest critiques on their craft. From legal jargon to registering on popular performance rights organisations (PRO) and everything in between this seminar is here to encompass everything they may have wanted to ask as well everything they need to know.”
Listed to be in attendance are some behind-the-scenes professionals that have worked with some of the most well-known artists.
With music showcases, workshops and the ever popular beat battles scheduled to happen on September 20 and 21 at the Beach Tower of the Atlantis Resort, Mr Collie says the experience is designed to give the maximum benefit to the events attendees. “If you know everything, if you have every contact, then this seminar is not for you. If you’re serious about your craft, if music is your passion and if you have the drive and are willing to put in the necessary time and effort, then iCreate Music Seminar is for you,” he said.
Mr Collie said Bahamians too often settle; they open for international acts for free or for less than they are valued.
“It’s time to get serious about branding. It’s time to put up or shut up. Nothing changes overnight but the seminar and events similar to it is a most definite step in the right direction,” he said.
