A gift to help regatta

THE Cat Island Regatta is an established fixture on the Bahamian summer calendar and this year’s event in August will offer a busy programme and upgraded facilities.

Godfrey Kelly, one of the founders of the Cat Island Sailing Club Association, and Peter Christie, a long-time member, have continued the tradition of the Association’s annual donation to the Regatta.

“When we started this in 1956, whoever thought 58 years later the Cat Island Regatta would be a staple on the calendar,” Mr Kelly said.

Pat Strachan, the Association president, is looking forward to the event. “From August 1st to the 4th, it’s going down in New Bight, Cat Island,” he said. “We will have the best entertainers including DMac, Geno D, Veronica Bishop and QPid, the most competitive sailing and the best tasting food.

“This year, we will have a number of activities including fashion show, coconut barking contest, Cat Island hunt, domino tournament, karaoke, watermelon eating contest and many more. Sailing Sloops confirmed are Who Dat, Red Stripe, Good News, Southern Cross, Ed Sky, Cobra, Eudeva, Passion, Heatcliff, Jacob’s Ladder, Ms Kitty, Witty K and Dream Girls.”

“Patrons can look forward to a renovated Sailing Club including repairs to the male and female bathrooms, newly installed air-conditioning units and new windows.”
