SEVERE WEATHER WARNING 3.30pm-8.30pm

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE WEATHER WARNING FROM 3:30PM TUESDAY …UNTIL 8:30PM.

A SEVERE WEATHER WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS WHICH INCLUDES THE ISLANDS OF ANDROS, NEW PROVIDENCE, ELEUTHERA, THE BERRY ISLANDS, BIMINI, NORTHERN EXUMAS, GRAND BAHAMA AND ABACO.

AT 3:30PM, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY INDICATED CLUSTERS OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A MID TO UPPER LEVEL TROF APPROACHING THE WESTERN BAHAMAS AFFECTING THE MENTIONED ISLANDS.  THESE STORMS ARE SLOW MOVING, TOWARDS THE NORTH TO NORTH-NORTHWEST AT 10 TO 15 MILES PER HOUR.

THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES AND ARE CAPABLE OF GENERATING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADO ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS DURING SEVERE STORMS. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTENING CONDUCTORS.

THERE WILL ALSO BE SOME FLOODING IN LOW LYING AREAS SO DRIVERS ARE ASKED TO DRIVE WITH CAUTION.
