Businesses back Culinary team

Numerous Bahamian businesses are supporting the National Culinary Team in a bid to ensure Bahamian chefs have the chance to compete in the elite ‘Taste of the Caribbean’ Culinary, Cocktail and Ice Sculpting Competition held in Miami each year.

The competition sees chefs, bartenders and ice carvers from a dozen Caribbean nations compete against each other in a wide variety of categories. The Bahamian Team won 13 medals in Miami last year, including Team Gold.

Prior to their departure, the National Culinary Team will be serving a savoury seven coarse meal at a ‘Gala Demonstration Dinner’ on Monday, June 23, at the fine dining Sapodilla Restaurant.

Sponsoring Bahamian cusinesses include the Bank of the Bahamas (BOB); Bahamas Culinary Association; Bahamas Food Services; Bristol Wines and Spirits; BTC; Bahamasair; Bahamian Brewery (Sands Beer); Betty K. Shipping; Majestic Tours; Atlantis; Albany Private Club; Aura Night Club; Le Sprouts Private Catering; Lyford Cay Club; One and Only Ocean Club; Sapodilla Restaurant; and the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism.

“The mix of supportive businesses spans the entire Bahamian economy,” said Suzanne Pattusch, Executive Vice President of the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association’s executive vice-president.

“It is a testament to this country’s connectivity, to our ability to take pride in, and stand behind, the unique capabilities that are indigenous to the Bahamas; the Culinary Arts being just one manifestation of the realm of talent.”
