POLICE are on the hunt for a group of men they believed attacked and gang-raped a woman early yesterday morning. The alleged assault happened shortly after midnight off Robinson Road.
According to reports, shortly before 6am a woman reported to police that sometime after midnight she was walking on Miami Street when a group of men took her behind a building and sexually assaulted her.
This incident comes less than a week after a woman was stabbed during an attempted sexual assault in her home. According to reports, the woman was at home when a man came into the house and attempted to rape her.
The woman fought back and was stabbed multiple times before her attacker fled on foot. Officer in Charge of the Central Detective Unit Paul Rolle said police believe robbery was the motive for the attack.
On Saturday, officers from the Flying Squad, acting on intelligence, went to a motel located on East Street South, where they arrested the suspect in connection with this incident. He is a 33-year-old resident of Garden Hills. Investigations into both incidents continue.
Anyone who may have been in the area of yesterday’s incident or with information is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
