YOU never know what you are going to bring up from the depths of the ocean when you decide to deep drop and send a line down to 1,300 feet. The results make this the week of the monster grouper in Abaco.

Bronson Russell and friends from Abaco had a fantastic week catching these giants by deep dropping between 800 and 1,300 feet and chunking for tuna.

First came two mystic grouper caught off Hole in the Wall on about 1,300 feet on electric reel. Both weighed about 46lbs.

“I caught these two on my Diawa Tanacom bull 1000 electric reel with 80lb braid on it,” said Mr Russell, who was fishing with Myles Roberts, Matthew Bethel and Gavin Russell.

There was more success the following day with a 75lbs grouper caught off Crossing Rocks. The grouper came up in the chum line while chunking for tuna and hit the weighted line.
